Trump’s attacks on the media have escalated.
The president is using Twitter to accuse the news media of bias, fabricating stories and stoking fears of terrorism, among other things.
The White House has called on reporters to stop covering Trump and his administration.
And while there is a debate about how much power to give the president, a White House official said Thursday that the president “has the full authority to use this executive order to punish reporters who cover him inappropriately.”
“In this environment, the president has the authority to direct the agencies that he wants to target, including the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to enforce the law to the fullest extent that he believes necessary,” the official said.
